NAA Manager, Flight Technicians and Stations

I. SUMMARY

The Manager Flight Technicians and Stations is responsible for oversight of Flight Technicians, Supervisor of Line station Maintenance and all station maintenance activities for North American Airlines.

II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Take ownership of Flight Technicians and Station Maintenance 24x7
• Monitor outstation events 24x7 to ensure the most effective management
• Develop most effective strategies to minimize unscheduled aircraft out of service events primarily outside of JFK
• Manage NAA resources as effectively as possible including the Supervisor of Outstation Maintenance
• Review fleet open control items, aircraft fleet status, and ETOPS limiting items in accordance with airline policy.
• Maintain constant communications between MCC regarding technical issues and aircraft status in order to maintain effective operations for NAA.
• Overseeing and coordinating the Flight Technician group (including schedules and debriefings) in accordance with company policy.
• Attending daily briefings with Quality Assurance, Operations Control, Dispatch, Materials, VP, and Director of Maintenance in order to maintain alignment around aircraft maintenance issues.
• Ensure all flights have maintenance support as required
• Other duties as assigned to assist North American Airlines in achieving its operational goals and objectives.


III. QUALIFICATIONS

A. Education and/or Experience

For the Manager, Flight Technicians and Stations a Bachelor’s degree and four to six years experience is required, MBA preferred. Must have at least 3 years maintenance experience on large transport category aircraft with a certificated carrier. Airline managerial experience is required.


B. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Ability to think strategically about issues pertaining to a particular unit, division, or company.
• Ability to both give and receive directions and follow through with them to completion.
• Strong working knowledge of one’s field or discipline in which one finds oneself engaged on a daily basis. Becoming fully aware and informed of current trends, developments, and changes in the sub-industry is critical for this.
• Must be an individual who is able to build relationships between individuals and within one’s division.
• When necessary, the ability to understand and communicate within a technical or specialized subject-matter, particularly as it pertains to aviation and the aviation industry.
• A strong understanding of systems thinking (i.e., realizing that one piece of an organization has an impact on other components of the organization, and navigating that impact successfully).
• The ability to think carefully and critically about one’s division or department while balancing the needs, goals, and vision of the company at large.
• The ability to use careful, measured judgment and decision-making (weighing the costs and benefits of a potential action; using discretion).
• Critical thinking abilities: using logic and analysis to determine strengths and weaknesses of a variety of solutions to any given problem.
• Managing, motivating, developing, and directing people in their work to best achieve common organizational goals. At this level, developing others becomes increasingly important, given the consideration given to succession planning and sustaining a departmental strategic plan or vision.
• Superior communication skills: must be comfortable engaging in a variety of different communicative modes (verbal, non-verbal, and written) and being attuned to others through strong active listening skills.
• Able to identify problems, their sources, and their potential solutions while continuing to successfully conduct day-to-day operations without interruption.

C. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must hold a valid FAA Airframe and Power Plant certification for at least three (3) years.

Must successfully complete 757 and 767 General Familiarization Course, NAA GMM training and hold a QC “Blue Card” authorization.

IV. WORKING CONDITIONS

A. Travel Requirements

Some travel is required for this job. Must relocate/live in the New York area. Commuting is not acceptable after 3 months.


B. Physical Demands

Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about.
