I. SUMMARY

 The Dispatch Instructor is responsible for exercising and maintaining joint responsibility with the pilot in command for operational control in accordance with FAA regulations/company policies and conducting technical training of dispatch department. 
 
II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Collecting, monitoring, interpreting, disseminating and applying weather and aeronautical information in order to safely planning and conducting each flight.
  • Initiating request for date concerning flight planning, dispatch release and flight information developed to assure proper flight watch.
  • Providing operational information to flight crews relating to facilities, Airfield serviceability, meteorological conditions, communications facilities, aircraft performance and operation date in order to ensure a safe flight.
  • Conducting classroom and on line training of new hire dispatchers as well as required recurrent training for currently employed dispatchers in accordance with airline policy.
  • Developing and maintaining training material in order to ensure proper education. 
  • Coordinating with other departments to ensure the safe and legal operation of all flights.
  • Calculating required fuel loads and performance limitations for each flight in order to assure a safe flight.
  • Coordinating with air traffic control to provide the safest and most efficient routing between city pairs. 
  • Other duties as assigned to assist North American Airlines in achieving its operational goals and objectives.

A. Education and/or Experience
 
For the Dispatch Instructor job, a Bachelor’s Degree four to six years experience is required.  
 
B. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
 
  • Strong communication skills: must be comfortable with engaging in a variety of different communicative modes (verbal, non-verbal, and written) and being attuned to others through strong active listening skills.
  • An individual in this capacity must have strong leadership skills, ensuring that he or she uses appropriate methods of leadership, influence, and persuasion, to guide, manage, and develop those within their scope of supervision. 
  • Individuals in this capacity must be able to instruct others, imparting knowledge and abilities to develop others within their scope of supervision. 
  • An individual working in a supervisory or professional position must be able to engage individuals using multiple learning styles in order to transmit information and develop those who they are supervising. 
  • Able to identify problems, their sources, and their potential solutions while continuing to successfully conduct day-to-day operations without interruption.
  • Must have a strong command of reasoned, measured decision-making based upon analyzing the pros and cons of each potential decision to be made. 
  • Must possess a strong ability to manage one’s own time, as well as others’ time, to ensure that the work that needs to be accomplished in a given time frame is, in fact accomplished. Hand-in-hand with this ability is the ability to prioritize tasks when given clearly defined goals and objectives.
  • Must have the ability to take initiative on a given task or project and persist with the project to its completion. 
  • Strong working knowledge of one’s field or discipline in which one finds oneself engaged on a daily basis. Becoming fully aware and informed of current trends, developments, and changes in the sub-industry is critical for this.
  • When necessary, the ability to understand and communicate within a technical or specialized subject matter, particularly as it pertains to aviation and the aviation industry.

IV. WORKING CONDITIONS
 
A. Travel Requirements
 
No travel is required for this job.
 
B. Physical Demands
 
Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about, or occasionally there may be a requirement to stoop or lift light material or equipment.

C. Work Environment
